Kauai, Hawaii
14 July 2003
Ke'e Beach was our first stop on our vacation to Kauai. It is at the very end of the Kuhio highway that runs along the east and north shores. The road to the beach is very interesting with many one lane bridges to cross. Ke'e Beach is the location for the filiming of the tv show 'The Thornbirds'. The movies 'Behold Hawaii', 'Island of the Alive', 'Lord of the Flies' and 'Pagan Love Song' were also filmed here. This first picture of the parking area gives you some idea of the beauty of the area.

Here is Lindsey enjoying the beautiful view of the beach!
Monk Seals are an endangered species in Hawaii. They are heavily protected and anytime they come ashore their sunny areas will be roped off. Shortly before our arrival to Ke'e Beach there was a Monk Seal sunning itself. This is the sign that is posted when this happens.

Some general views of the sunbathers and swimmers at the beach.
The views of the mountains are fantastic from the beach. The other side of these mountains is the Na Pali coast.

The trees on this beach had some very unusual root formations. Many of the roots were taller than I was!
